Welcome to Equest Farm
If you are interested in riding horses, Equest Farm offers riding for all levels. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced rider our riding program is tailored to fit each individual rider.
Some just want to give riding a try, others want to join our riding program while others want to compete at local shows. We have horses and instructors that would suit your needs.
All of our lessons are English-style Hunter/Jumper, taught in a ring with a friendly, experienced instructor. We have over 25 school horses from ponies to large horses that can cater to both beginners as well as riders who want to jump. Please review our gallery to see our school horses.
Equest offers private as well as group lessons for both children and adults. Lessons are leveled according to age and ability. As part of our lesson program we also teach riders how to care for the horses and practice safety when handling our horses and ponies.
If you are interested in riding at our facility, you must first take a 1/2 hour Evaluation Lesson. This lesson allows us to place you in an appropriate group for your level of experience and age. (Refer to our Riding School Page for a full description of our horsemanship levels)
Upon calling our office at 504-483-9398, please be prepared to give the following information so we can assign a horse and instructor to suit your individual needs.
- Name and telephone number
- Age, approximate height and weight of the rider
- Experience level riding horses
- Days or times you are available to ride
Once you have scheduled your evaluation lesson, please bring the following items for your first lesson:
- Cash or Check for $50
- Long pants and boots with a heel (some boots are available to borrow on site) - NO TENNIS SHOES ALLOWED
- Optional: An FEI approved riding helmet (helmets are required to ride, but available to borrow on site.)
After you have scheduled your first lesson, plan on arriving at the stables 30 minutes in advance to come into the office to fill out our standard waiver and pay for your lesson. If you need to borrow a helmet or a pair of boots, allow at least 10 minutes in addition to the suggested 30 minute early arrival. All lessons run on the hour or 1/2 hour and cannot be delayed due to your tardiness.
Once you have completed your evaluation lesson, you will return to the office and if you choose to continue riding the following options will be available to you based on instructor approval after the evaluation.
